Morphology
- What is morphology ?
Morphology is a field of linguistics focused on the study of the forms and formation of words in linguistics, Especially regarding morpheme.
Word is smallest independent units of language. Words have internal structure: built of even smaller pieces :
Word is smallest independent units of language. Words have internal structure: built of even smaller pieces :
- Simple Word : Don't have internal structure ( only consist of one morpheme ). Ex : walk, play, and work . They can't be split into smaller part which carry meaning or function.
- Complex Word : Have internal structure ( consist of two or more morphemes ). Ex : walker. Affix -er added to the root walk to from a noun.
Morpheme is smallest unit of meaning or gramatical function. Morpheme can be a root.
Types of morphemes :
Types of morphemes :
- Free morpheme ➡ is morpheme that by itself can function as a word in a language. Free morphemes have two categories :
✴ Lexical morphemes ( open class ) : set of ordinary nouns, adjectives, and verbs (almost same as content words as they carry the content of messege we convey).
Examples : open, walk, work, and boy .
✴ Functional morphemes ( close class ) : set of conjunctions, prepositions, articles, and pronouns (almost same as functional words).
Examples : near, but, and then
- Bound morpheme ➡ is morpheme they can't stand by itself to. form a word. It must be joined to other morphemes. Bound. morphemes have two categories :
✴ Derivational morphemes : when added to a stem, they almost always change the part of speech of the word.
Examples : -ness , -less , dis- , and -ment
✴ Inflectional Morphemes : that have a strictly a grammar function.
Example : -s , -est , -ed , -er , and -ing
For examples :
❇ Free morpheme : Like
Bound morpheme : Dis
Word : Dislike
❇ Free morpheme : Dream
Bound morpheme : Er
Word : Dreamer
So how ?? Do you understand now about morphology ??
I hope you understand guys. But if you any questions please ask and comment ..
See you in the next post guysss..
Thank you ..

Same with me
BalasHapusWe have same topic hahaha, so can we colaborate ? We can learn it together ๐
BalasHapusNaila, why you still not reply my question ? Lol ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ I want to ask to you, can you give me example and some clue how can we analyse to know how many morphemes in a word ? Thank you naila ๐ธ
HapusThank you ester for asking . Examples of morphology are dislike, unhappy, illness and else. We can analyse frow the word . For example dis+like = dislike so in this word we have 2 morphemes .
HapusHow can you said it 2 morphemes ? Can you tell me in "dislike", which part is the morphemes ? Because of your explanation still not show me how to know how many morphemes in a word ๐
HapusDislike has 2 mophemes . Dis is first morpheme and like is second morpheme . Dis is affix morpheme and like is base morpheme. So dislike has 2 morphemes. How ester did you understand ?
HapusKomentar ini telah dihapus oleh pengarang.
HapusOkay, but you said first morphemes and affix morphemes
HapusIn your blog, you only write free morphemes, lexical morphemes, functional morphemes, bound morphemes, derivational morphemes and inflectional morphemes. So what is first morpheme and what is affix morphemes ? Why did you not write it in your blog ? Can you explain it to me ? Thank you naila
Haha i told you. You really should wear glasses๐๐ . Ester come on please look at my blog. I made it on diagram and table . Talking about first morpheme, i meant to different one moprheme and other morpheme like first, second, third ... So nothing meaning. About affixes morpheme can be added to beginning or end of word and for example i have written ๐
HapusHello sis @naila..I want ask to you about @ester ask you how can we analyse to know how many morphemes in a word ?... and you answer . For example dis+like = dislike so in this word we have 2 morphemes . So I want ask you, what dis + like have a meaning different?
Hapushi ayu nice to meet you . yeah dislike has 2 morphemes. dis and like ( dis + like = dislike ). dis is first morpheme or we know dis as affix and like is second morpheme or we know like as root word . i am sorry but your question didn't complete ayu, you said dis+like have different meaning with what ?
Hapushaha sory sis naila ๐๐ I think 2 morpheme are two different words. and has a different meaning ๐ also means I don't understand it earlier .. haha sorry sis
Hapusello sis monika .. why are you so cute baby๐๐ ..
Hapushaha why do you say the same as you ?? what is the same ???
Is the contents of his blog exactly the same as your blog?
then why can?๐ฒ๐ฒ
Same topic with me
BalasHapusreally . maybe next time i can visit your blog to see what is your post and maybe we can learn together and make something new for our blog and of course still about education .
Hapusyes nayla I hope you visit my blog as soon as possible so that in the future we can learn together. thank you for the explanation .teTap is writing things that are useful and good ๐ค๐ค๐ค
HapusCan you tell what is the function of studying morphology?
BalasHapusIn order we know about structure of word and also we can apply it when we make a sentence or when we are talking with someone . We also know the different meaning of word when the word add affix or suffix .
HapusThank's for the explanation, now i'm understand what morphology functions. Can you give a simple example?
HapusSo that I understand more about morphology. Thank you ๐
No . I don't want because you can scroll and read on my blog๐. Hahah no i am just kidding . Of course i'll give you simple example of morphology . Talking about morphology is same like talking about word . So examples of morpholgy are unhappy, illness, and badly . Desi do you understand ? Or maybe you have any question again ?
HapusIf you don't want to set an example I'll keep asking until you give it ๐
HapusYes I already understand, but may I ask again about the function of morphology ?
I hope you want to explain
Hahahaha you are funny desy. You said you understand about function of morphology in the last comment but now you ask me again๐๐ . You wanna play with me or what ?
HapusAstagfirullah I made a mistake, I forgot to ask you that first. But naila, humans are not perfect beings. And I'm not perfect ๐
HapusBut why do you look emosional. I don't want to play with you. I just asked, but I forgot to ask it first, Hahaha ๐
Hahah it's oke i know nothing perfect in this world unless our God . I didn't look emosional actually . I was so excited to reply your comment because you looked so funny ๐๐๐
HapusFunny? Do I look like a clown? ๐คกhaha,no I'm just kidding. Then may I ask about the use of inflectional morphemes ?.
Hapusinflectional is buid new forms of word, that have a strictly a grammar function. for example in the simple progressive you should add -ing so if the root teach you should change to be teaching ( teach vs teaching ) .
HapusBut I have read on one of the English learning sites, where it says that inflectional morpheme cannot form new words. The meaning and class of words also did not change. What do you think about that?
Hapushi sis my cute sarah ๐๐๐๐... what kind of statement is that ???
Hapusha ha ha๐๐
same topic with you ??
then why if it's the same?
Do you want to copy the material?๐๐
wow this is ... questions for new material .๐.thankyou sis desi๐.
Hapuslet's answer, Sis naila ... I'm also curious, right?
don't like to make people wait, sis๐ฅ๐ฅ
heyyyy ayu, my point is we have the same topic, I ask because if we have the same topic we can learn together about morpholgy. do you think I can't make my own article about morphology ha?๐๐๐
Hapushaha calm down my dear ๐๐ don't emotionally first๐ .. at first I thought so ... that you are lazy to create a blog with your own mind,๐ ๐ so you want to copy a naila's blog๐ .. but it seems I'm wrong .. ๐ I am So Sory๐๐๐
HapusI can make my own blog ayu, even I can make a much better one than Nayla as long as you know that. Why do you think I look at Nayla's blog just to imitate what he wrote on his blog? I hope you think before you say.
HapusGood job Naila. Hope next time you can add the meaning of the topic or the title with your own words too Naila, and more resources Sis. Keep making progress. ๐
BalasHapusokey sis i will . thank you for visiting my blog hope you enjoy and get more knowledge here. if you have any question you can ask me and i will reply you soon .
Hapushi sis nayla, in my opinion your blog is easy for me to understand I don't know if the others๐คฃ but I want to ask, does morphology have anything to do with other material? if there is please explain, thank you ๐
BalasHapusOf course yeah . There is semantic , bacause if the word add affix and suffix the meaning of word is will be change . I think it is . How reffi ? Do you understand ? Or maybe you have any question ?
Hapusonly a little that I understand by what you say, because before I have never read about morphology, this is the log of morphology that I first read hehe .. may explain it again to me but included with an example, maybe I will understand more with example. thank you :)
Hapushi refi ... I think it might be easier to bolt you if you understand the material through an explanation from a video. for example you see on YouTube ... or maybe maybe Sis can give an explanation like a video ...thankyou๐๐
HapusHii nayla...your explain is good ..but i can't understand about suffix and affix can you explain to me ...
BalasHapusthank you monica. of course i will explain you about that . affix is added to the root of word to change it's meaning. suffix is an affix added to the back of root word .
Hapushello kak naila ... I still don't understand about the affix added to the root ... can you give an example
BalasHapusHayy Nayla Thank you for the explanation, may I ask what is the reason you chose morphology to be a blog. I will wait for your answer. thanks ๐ค๐ค๐ค
BalasHapusnayla what are the benefits of learning morphology?
BalasHapusthen whether learning morphology is a must in learning language Nayla?
I will wait for your answer, thanks๐ค๐ค
hi sis! honestly I like the template and contents of this blog, the color is fresh in the eyes but too plain. We recommend adding or replacing with a slightly colored theme
BalasHapususe a soft color theme, don't stand out like the flame wkwkkk. but just hit it, the others are safe. the contents of the text are also easy to understand.๐๐ see u
BalasHapusHow can you said it 2 morphemes ? Can you tell me in "dislike", which part is the morphemes ? Because of your explanation still not show me how to know how many morphemes in a word
