Morphology Linguistics

Assalamualaikum
Hi guys .. Welcome back to my blog
So here in my blog i'll tell you about morphology. What is it ?? Why we should know about it ??
So CHECK IT OUT ⬇⬇⬇

Morphology

  •  What is morphology ?
Morphology is a field of linguistics focused on the study of  the forms and formation of words in linguistics, Especially regarding morpheme.

Word is smallest independent units of language. Words have internal structure: built of even smaller pieces :

  1. Simple Word : Don't have internal structure ( only consist of one morpheme ). Ex : walk, play, and work . They can't be split into smaller part which carry meaning or function.
  2. Complex Word : Have internal structure ( consist of two or more morphemes ). Ex : walker. Affix -er added to the root walk to from a noun.

Morpheme is smallest unit of meaning or gramatical function. Morpheme can be a root.
Types of morphemes :

  • Free morpheme ➡ is morpheme that by itself can function as a word in a language. Free morphemes have two categories :

Lexical morphemes ( open class ) : set of ordinary nouns, adjectives, and verbs (almost same as content words as they carry the content  of messege we convey).
Examples : open, walk, work, and boy .
Functional morphemes ( close class ) : set of conjunctions, prepositions, articles, and pronouns (almost same as functional words).
Examples : near, but, and then

  •  Bound morpheme ➡ is morpheme they can't stand by itself to. form a word. It must be joined to other morphemes. Bound. morphemes have two categories :
Derivational morphemes : when added to a stem, they almost always  change the part of speech of the word.
Examples : -ness , -less , dis- , and -ment
Inflectional Morphemes : that have a strictly a grammar function.
Example : -s , -est , -ed , -er , and -ing

For examples :
❇ Free morpheme : Like
    Bound morpheme : Dis
    Word : Dislike
❇ Free morpheme : Dream
    Bound morpheme : Er
    Word : Dreamer

So how ?? Do you understand now about morphology ??
I hope you understand guys. But if you any questions please ask and comment ..
See you in the next post guysss..
Thank you ..

      Hapus
    2. Thank you ester for asking . Examples of morphology are dislike, unhappy, illness and else. We can analyse frow the word . For example dis+like = dislike so in this word we have 2 morphemes .

      Hapus

      Hapus
    4. Dislike has 2 mophemes . Dis is first morpheme and like is second morpheme . Dis is affix morpheme and like is base morpheme. So dislike has 2 morphemes. How ester did you understand ?

    6. Okay, but you said first morphemes and affix morphemes

In your blog, you only write free morphemes, lexical morphemes, functional morphemes, bound morphemes, derivational morphemes and inflectional morphemes. So what is first morpheme and what is affix morphemes ? Why did you not write it in your blog ? Can you explain it to me ? Thank you naila

      Hapus
    7. Haha i told you. You really should wear glasses๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ . Ester come on please look at my blog. I made it on diagram and table . Talking about first morpheme, i meant to different one moprheme and other morpheme like first, second, third ... So nothing meaning. About affixes morpheme can be added to beginning or end of word and for example i have written ๐Ÿ”

      Hapus
  3. Can you tell what is the function of studying morphology?

    BalasHapus
    Balasan
    1. In order we know about structure of word and also we can apply it when we make a sentence or when we are talking with someone . We also know the different meaning of word when the word add affix or suffix .

      Hapus
    2. Thank's for the explanation, now i'm understand what morphology functions. Can you give a simple example?
So that I understand more about morphology. Thank you ๐Ÿ™

      Hapus
    3. No . I don't want because you can scroll and read on my blog๐Ÿ˜’. Hahah no i am just kidding . Of course i'll give you simple example of morphology . Talking about morphology is same like talking about word . So examples of morpholgy are unhappy, illness, and badly . Desi do you understand ? Or maybe you have any question again ?

      Hapus
    4. If you don't want to set an example I'll keep asking until you give it ๐Ÿ˜‚
Yes I already understand, but may I ask again about the function of morphology ?
I hope you want to explain

      Hapus
    5. Hahahaha you are funny desy. You said you understand about function of morphology in the last comment but now you ask me again๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ . You wanna play with me or what ?

      Hapus
    6. Astagfirullah I made a mistake, I forgot to ask you that first. But naila, humans are not perfect beings. And I'm not perfect ๐Ÿ˜‚
But why do you look emosional. I don't want to play with you. I just asked, but I forgot to ask it first, Hahaha ๐Ÿ˜‚

      Hapus
    7. Hahah it's oke i know nothing perfect in this world unless our God . I didn't look emosional actually . I was so excited to reply your comment because you looked so funny ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

      Hapus
    8. Funny? Do I look like a clown? ๐Ÿคกhaha,no I'm just kidding. Then may I ask about the use of inflectional morphemes ?.

      Hapus
    9. inflectional is buid new forms of word, that have a strictly a grammar function. for example in the simple progressive you should add -ing so if the root teach you should change to be teaching ( teach vs teaching ) .

      Hapus
    10. But I have read on one of the English learning sites, where it says that inflectional morpheme cannot form new words. The meaning and class of words also did not change. What do you think about that?

      Hapus
    11. hi sis my cute sarah ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ˜™... what kind of statement is that ???
      ha ha ha๐Ÿ˜—๐Ÿ˜—

don't like to make people wait, sis๐Ÿ˜ฅ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

      Hapus
    13. heyyyy ayu, my point is we have the same topic, I ask because if we have the same topic we can learn together about morpholgy. do you think I can't make my own article about morphology ha?๐Ÿ˜’๐Ÿ˜’๐Ÿ˜’

      Hapus
    14. haha calm down my dear ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰ don't emotionally first๐Ÿ˜ƒ .. at first I thought so ... that you are lazy to create a blog with your own mind,๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜… so you want to copy a naila's blog๐Ÿ˜œ .. but it seems I'm wrong .. ๐Ÿ˜† I am So Sory๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜

      Hapus
